About Visual and Multimedia Resources

Visual and Multimedia Resources (VMR), a division of the Pratt Institute Libraries, provides: video, film, and image circulation, multimedia viewing reservations for individuals and classes, audiovisual equipment circulation, and equipped lecture spaces in the Library for academic events. This form is for one-time reservations for meetings and classes.

VMR seeks to facilitate and enhance educational communication by providing materials in subjects and multimedia formats that support and enrich the Institute’s curriculum. The department’s aim is to assist students, faculty and staff in locating multimedia materials that meet their educational needs.

Video Circulation & Viewing

VMR provides overnight circulation and in-house viewing of DVDs & VHS tapes at the VMR main office. For more information, see Video & Film Collections or search for items on PrattCat. To arrange viewings for individuals or classes, please contact us via room.library@pratt.edu or submit the AV Room Reservations Request Form. Walk-ins are welcome and are served on a first-come first-served basis. To suggest additions to the video collection or to request faculty reservations for non-library viewing, please email video.library@pratt.edu.

Visual Resources Center

The Visual Resources Center (VRC) houses a collection of over 120,000 architecture, art and design color slides, a growing digital image collection hosted through ARTstor, and scanning workstations for public use.

The VRC is open to Pratt faculty, staff, and students with a valid Pratt ID card. Pratt alumni with a valid Alumni Card and visiting faculty during the summer (pre-college program) and winter sessions, may use the VRC scanners, but are not entitled to borrow slides. Faculty with a valid Pratt ID card may request digital images for inclusion in the Pratt Institute Libraries Digital Image Collection, hosted online through ARTstor.

Equipment Circulation

VMR provides equipment loans to the Institute from the Equipment Loan Office (Library, Lower Level). Students, faculty and staff can check out AV equipment including:

  • Laptops (daytime circulation only)
  • Mac Minis (special requests only)
  • Digital Projectors
  • Slide Projectors
  • Digital Audio Recording Equipment
  • Still Cameras
  • Video Cameras (Flash HD)
  • Tripods
  • Photo Lights

Equipment is due back on the next business day after checkout.

Self-Service Scanning and Dubbing

Flatbed Scanner

An Epson 10000XL is available on a first-come, first-served basis for faculty, students, staff, and alumni. This equipment may be used for regular scanning and scanning transparencies using film or slide adaptors available at the VRC. Scanning sessions are limited to three hours.

VHS to DVD and DVD Transfer Station

Two self-service transfer stations are available for converting a VHS tape to digital file and/or DVD. This equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis for faculty, students, and staff. Reservations are strongly recommended. Please be advised that VHS transfers are done in real-time; please consider this when making a reservation.

Additionally, a DVD duplication station is available for making up to seven copies of non-copyrighted DVDs at a time. Again, this equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis for faculty, students, staff, and alumni. Reservations are strongly recommended.

AV Equipped Classrooms

VMR oversees rooms for scheduling classes, presentations, and meetings in the following spaces:

  • · MMB (Screening Room), Library Lower Level: seats 20
  • · ARR (Alumni Reading Room), Library 3rd floor: seats 65
  • · HHC015: Higgins Hall Center: seats 24
  • · HHC016: Higgins Hall Center: seats 24
  • · Higgins Hall Auditorium 018, Higgins Hall Center: seats 260

These spaces are equipped for a variety of audiovisual needs, including; digital projection, video/film viewing, and 35mm slide projection. Reservations are required for the use of these rooms, and are given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Circulation Policies

  • A valid Pratt ID is required to borrow videos or equipment.
  • Videos carry a $5.00 per item/per day late fee.
  • Equipment carries a $12.00 per item/per day late fee.
  • Circulated video titles must be returned 30 minutes prior to closing on the day due.
  • Faculty, staff, and students may borrow circulating videos for 1 calendar week.
  • Equipment borrowed overnight is due by noon of the next business day.
